Robert S. Anderson Cabinetmaker

The story behind our family cabinetmaking operation

When my wife, Orleen, and I first pulled up to this secluded 25 wooded acres in the Beaver Valley, we knew we’d found our home. After four years immersed in cabinetmaking and learning the secrets of the trade from various craftsmen throughout Ontario, I was ready to strike out on my own as a cabinetmaker. We became modern day homesteaders, built our own house in 1980 and completed the shop the following year.

Our first piece in the Beaver Valley was built out of a small garage on the shore of the Georgian Bay. Our first clients gave us their trust as we offered our youthful eagerness and enthusiasm. We created a beautiful and functional drop-front desk with arched glass doors, pigeonholes and dovetailed drawers. Our clients became friends and we’ve built several more pieces for them over the years.

So since 1981 we’ve been producing high quality furniture, custom kitchen cabinets, built in wall cabinets and various other home furnishings in a variety of styles for individual clients, designers, architects and custom home builders.

We have pieces in farm homes in the Beaver Valley, custom millwork and cabinets in Blue Mountain beach homes, furniture in Rosedale, Toronto, London, and on Georgian Bay Island retreats. Owners enjoy our custom-built furniture in homes coast to coast in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Scandinavia and in South Korea.

Our three children grew up at Birdland, as our homestead became affectionately known, and our furniture-making business has always had the feel of a small family operation.  Orleen and I have worked with many great assistants and staff over the years. Mike Hutten, our shop foreman, is a fine cabinetmaker and has been with us since he was a teen.
